The UFC will once again honor the troops in the form of a mixed martial arts (MMA) event later this year as company president Dana White announced "Fight for the Troops 3" will take place Nov. 6, 2013.
It has been over 2.5 years since the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) last held a mixed martial arts (MMA) event to honor the armed forces, but on Nov. 6, 2013, that will all change.
According to comments from UFC President Dana White (via Dave Doyle) at a Q&A session with fans on Friday (July 5, 2013), the organization will host a third "Fight for the Troops" event before the year is out.
While White announced a date for the event, details regarding a potential location or venue have not been revealed at this time.
The last UFC "Fight for the Troops" event took place Jan. 22, 2011 at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX, and featured a main event where Melvin Guillard defeated Evan Dunham by first-round (technical) knockout.
Prior to that, the inaugural "Fight for the Troops" event went down Dec. 10, 2008, at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Not only are the events designed to provide entertainment to troops who have put their lives on the line around the world to ensure the safety of others, but they are also used to raise money for veterans of combat.
Both "Fight for the Troops" events benefited the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (IFHF), which provides assistance to military heroes who have been critically injured in the performance of their duty, and their families. Over $4 million dollars was raised for the IFHF.
MMAmania.com will provide more details, including any announced match ups, as they become available.
