Ok, something I have to get off of my chest. My name is Brian and I'm a part time Dallas REALTOR?. You have a problem with that??
Technically, I'm not part time. I'm a full time Dallas REALTOR? and have another part time job. Prior to real estate, I was (and still am) a paramedic and registered nurse. I currently work 2 days per week at Children's Medical Center in Dallas in the Pediatric ICU. I love what I do there. I take care of the sickest of the sick. We deal with cancer, illness, surgery, trauma, organ transplants, and much more. We do dialysis and what equates to cardiac bypass at the bedside in the ICU. We do surgeries at the bedside. I love what I do there and will NOT be giving it up anytime soon.?
Yes, I work 2 days a week at another job. I do this for the benefits. I do it for the pay. I do it for the challenge. But I do it because I LOVE it and because it fullfills me. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and a sense of making a difference in someone's life. These are the exact same reasons that I got into real estate. Real estate gives me the same satisfaction, but on a totally different level (and a little less depressing... sometimes). And let's be real: the hospital is a GREAT source for helping doctors, nurses, and pharmacists buy and sell their home!
It seems many agents bash "part time" agents like me. They treat these "part time agents" like scabs, like lesser agents. I understand that there are some "part time agents" who don't do what they should. Who aren't familiar with the process. Who aren't giving their clients the best possible representation. Who aren't professionals at what they do.
But I can also show you a number of full time REALTORS? who are the exact same way. I can show you a number of top producers who treat their clients like crap and still practice real estate like it was 2005. I got a contract the other day that was outdated (version-wise) by 4 years! Had I (the part timer) not been familiar with the contracts and the requirements, it could have put our entire transaction at risk. Full time does not necessarily equate with knowledgable, successful, and professional. ?
Don't trash someone because they have another job - there may be a million reasons behind that job that you have no idea about. And don't base their knowledge and their skill set on the fact that they don't do this "full time". I make all of my clients aware that I work in the hospital 2 days a week. Some chose another agent because of it, and I don't mind that at all because I know that it is their loss, not mine. I have also started to build a team of Dallas real state agents to deal with those clients, because I don't WANT it to be their loss. I want them to work with one of my associates and still get top quality customer service, even if it is not with me. Because I LIKE being able to make a difference in people's lives.?
